Duck, Again?
Saturday 15 August 2026, 8:30am – 6pm
Bookings are open now!
Again? You may cry. Yes, Duck is coming back to enrich your August and provide an opportunity for our Archery community to gather and throw sticks at things. As in the previous two years, we are once again hosted in the lovely lands of the Barony of Eplaheimr at the John Kirwan Scout Den in Clara, Co Offaly.
Doors open at 8:30am to accommodate people arriving on the slightly inconvenient train connection, shooting is not expected to start till about 10am. This year we are planning on focusing our attention on two classes: one for beginners and a master class for more advanced archers during the morning.
There will be snacks available and lunch served by the force of nature that is our own Lady Gytha Ui Bhanain who may whip out a turducken, I would not put it past her. I’ve asked for more modest fare to accommodate a modest event.
After lunch there will be target shoots with scores going into the central ID database so you can keep track of your progress. After shooting is done there will be a short but perfectly formed court of our stupendous Prince and Princess.
Pre-booking is essential.
Location
The event will take place at the Jim Kirwan Scout Hall in Clara.
The site is moderately accessible, with some bumpy doorways. Parking is available on site.
Planned Activities
Archery! We will have:
- Beginner’s class
- Advanced masterclass

- Court
If you, or your friends or family, are interested in archery in the SCA, this one-day event is an ideal time to come along and have a look! We will be wearing medieval clothing (garb), but don’t worry if you don’t have anything that looks historical. We are happy to lend you clothing for the day if you let us know on the booking form.
There’s also a good spot to hang out by the fire and engage in Arts & Sciences if you’re not into shooting, or just accompanying an archer. Tea, coffee, and the odd snack will be available through the day.
