Our site is Crawfordsburn Scout Camp near Belfast, Northern Ireland. This venue is easy to reach by car, bus, rail, sea and air.
Note that Northern Ireland is a part of the UK, and you will need to pay for taxis and other local items in pounds sterling.
By air
There are three airports that are suitable for travelling to Crawfordsburn.
Belfast City Airport
Belfast City is the closest to the airport, about ten minutes journey away by car or taxi, and with a rail link to Helen’s Bay close to the site. This is a small airport that is mostly useful for travel from Great Britain, though you may find a connecting flight from further away if you book through KLM or British Airways.
The site is 8 miles (12.5km) from Crawfordsburn by road, and a taxi will cost about £25.
Belfast International Airport
Belfast International is further from the site, and about 45 minutes by road.
The site is about 28 miles (45km) from Crawfordsburn by road, and a taxi will cost about £60, though you can reduce this substantially by first taking an airport bus to Belfast City Centre.
Dublin Airport
Dublin Airport requires onward travel, but is a large airport with an excellent selection of flights, including from a number of low cost carriers.
There are a number of coaches to Belfast that leave from Dublin Airport; see “by bus” below. These services run comfortable buses, often with USB power, and take about 1h50m to reach Belfast. You can also travel into Dublin City Centre and then proceed by bus or rail.
You can also hire a car at Dublin Airport, though if you do so, check that you are allowed to take it across the border to Northern Ireland.
There are typically no passport checks or other border controls between Ireland and Northern Ireland. However, you must have permission to visit both Ireland and the UK.
Dublin Airport is 110 miles (175km) from Crawfordsburn by road, most of which is motorway or dual carriageway.
By sea
If you’re travelling from Great Britain and would like to bring your own car, you can take a ferry to Belfast or Dublin.
Stena Line has services from Cairnryan (a 2h15m crossing) and Liverpool (8h) to Belfast.
Belfast port is 13 miles (21km) away by road.
Stena Line and Irish Ferries also have services from Holyhead to Dublin (approx 3h15m). There are also exceptionally good value Sail & Rail prices from all stations in the UK to Dublin, from where you can continue your journey by bus or rail.
Dublin port is 113 miles (182km) from Crawfordsburn by road, most of which is motorway or dual carraigeway.
By rail
Irish Rail and Translink operate the “Enterprise” rail service between Dublin Connolly Station and Belfast Lanyon place. This runs about every two hours, and takes about 2h10m.
There are typically no passport checks or other border controls between Ireland and Northern Ireland. However, you must have permission to visit both Ireland and the UK.
From Lanyon Place you can connect with a local train service to Helen’s Bay about a 20 minute walk to the site, or take a taxi. A taxi from Lanyon Place will take about 20 minutes, and cost about £30.
By bus or coach
Dublin Express and Aircoach both operate bus services between Dublin and Belfast.
Aircoach runs services from O’Connell St in Dublin City Centre, through Dublin Airport, to Belfast Glengall St, from which you can continue your journey by taxi.
Dublin Express runs services from Westland Row and Custom House Quay (near Connolly Station) through Dublin Airport to Belfast Glengall St.
A taxi from Glengall St to Crawfordsburn will cost about £30.
